The subsequent note provides an analysis with respect to the so-called german tank problem.
This problem is named after its utilization by the Allied forces in World War II for the estimation of the rate of the german tank production, where it was based on an only rudimentary data basis and exploited the german practice of attaching sequences of numbers to tank components. A few of these tanks were captured by the Allied forces in battle, which allowed for the analysis of their serial numbers.
Specifically this note will investigate to what extent the frequentist prediction of the number of tanks differs from the corresponding Bayesian means in relative terms.
After a brief introduction of the underlying theory and the method applied for this note, the results of the analysis will be addressed.
Finally the generated R code - for the purpose of this investigation - will be presented.
