There is a growing interest in preparations with drugs for dermal and transdermal therapy. In this connection, the problems of availability of drugs from different vehicles, the choice of adequate models for in vitro release and in vitro absorbation as well as testing methods are of principal interest. Furthermore the metabolism and kinetic aspects have to be taken into consideration. In addition to presenting established results experts from many countries tried to point out where increased efforts are necessary in all the fields involved if our current knowledge of external therapy is to be extended. The options expressed by representatives of the drug authorities of many countries are of special interest. Thus a wide range of scientific disciplines have contributed to the current situation and to our present state of knowledge, both of which are convered by this book.
