Beschreibung

The aim of the present work is to define a model for inhomogeneous luminance conditions which results from the requirement analysis for the stationary marking light. The valuation is mainly operationalized by the threshold contrast and additionally by the reaction time. Extensive literature research on threshold contrasts under homogeneous and inhomogeneous luminance conditions makes it clear that in the inhomogeneous case, adaptation luminance is not clearly defined. Although there are several models, they are different in their approaches. In this work an equivalent adaptation luminance that causes the same threshold contrasts is to be defined from inhomogeneous luminance. After research on various models, my own investigation follows based on the stationary marking light. The investigations take place in the periphery under inhomogeneous luminance ratios. The turning process of a car represents the greatest risk of accidents. It is important that persons in the periphery are already perceived to reduce the risk. There are four experiments. The desired number of test subjects is thirty participants per test series in the first three trials and the fourth trial with ten participants. The first experiment determines the influence of object size on threshold contrast with an inhomogeneous background. The aim of the second series of experiments is to determine an equivalent local adaptation luminance. In the third series of experiments, as a possible equivalent adaptation luminance is examined as the mean luminance of a background which is covered by the object when it appears. In the series of experiments, the inhomogeneous background is varied. Five different inhomogeneous backgrounds are examined. The fourth attempt is a repetition of the third experiment with almost all parameters. Only the environment size of 10° of the homogeneous background is reduced as the only parameter to 2°. The results are equal threshold contrasts and nearly equal detection probabilities. The procedure from the fourth series of experiments, therefore, represents a strong approximation for the evaluation of inhomogeneous luminance conditions with a locally homogeneous adaptation luminance for the type of presentation considered. In addition to the threshold contrast, reaction times are also examined. Higher contrast values lead to shorter reaction times. At the threshold, the response times do not differ significantly regardless of the contrast and angle.
