The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF) are
the official compendia of standards for drugs, excipients, dietary
supplements, and other therapeutic products for the USA and several other
countries. The USP contains legally recognized standards of identity,
strength, quality, purity, packaging, storage, and labeling for active
ingredients and other therapeutic products. The NF includes standards for
excipients, botanicals and other "non-drug" ingredients used in drug
preparation.
USP NF standards are continuously revised and updated. Only the latest
edition, USP 27-NF 22, will help comply with official FDA requirements
starting on January 1, 2004.
