The UIA competition is one of the most important competitions for students of architecture. Every 3 years the UNESCO prize for architecture is awarded to the winner. The theme of the competition in 2002 was the future of an inner-city area in central Berlin: the aim was to provide an environmentally friendly and practical contribution to the redevelopment of this significant area, and at the same time to define a new architectural language for the 21st century.
This book documents the background, the results and the winning designs from this competition which attracted more than 1000 participants.
