The empirical dissertation examines the change in occupational division and describes its extent and effect. Relevant theories are introduced alongside a description of the status quo of research, followed by an examination of the changes in professions, social differentiation, the employment world and occupational division. The results show that professional content changes, but its function remains. There is currently no proof that occupational division will end. The data used in this evaluation were collected by the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB), the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin - BAuA) between 1979 and 2006.
