But soon had enough of all socialism, and moved to West Germany, worked as a servant with the winegrower. But then took a chance and was recruited by the South African Railway as a locomotive heater. So he came closer to his youth dream train driver. But after two years after adventurous tramping he returned to Hamburg and became a subway driver. Finally he was able to switch to the Federal Railways, where he worked his way up from a window cleaner to the main locomotive driver in Munich, where he was allowed to travel 30 years of S-Bahn, freight trains and express trains.
