While artist Julie Schachter has received national and international acclaim for her pinhole photography (see RESUME), she also deserves recognition for her original paintings and bronze sculptures.
While artist Julie Schachter has received national and international attention for her pinhole photography (see RESUME, back pages in Preview), few are aware that she has also created a large body of paintings, drawings, and sculptures that cover the creative spectrum. Her works presented here are infused with wit and humor, addressing the major issues of the old and new Millennium.
To attain a fuller understanding of her approach to conceptual subject matter, her lens- less pinhole camerawork offers some important clues. The images that may be viewed in her 2013 pinhole photography book, BLACK BOXES, include B&W time exposures shot in the San Francisco/Bay Area, Death Valley Junction, and beyond. She has also created a extensive photographic survey of the West Coast punk scene, in a book entitled, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA PUNK/NEW WAVE 1978-1980, that includes historical photos of bands such as Tuxedomoon, The Mutants, Crispy Baby, Seizure, Flipper, The Nuns, The Sex Pistols and others. In the world of art there are many 'undiscovered' artists who deserve a wider audience for their fine works. Please enjoy the originality of Julie Schachter.
