Alois climbed the ladder to the driver's cab, smoking a cigarette.
He preheated the diesel engine and started the engine.
A sooty cloud of exhaust gas immediately emerged from the exhaust.
The sound of the modern engine was music to our ears.
Alois switched on the threshing mechanism.
The engine felt the arduous load of all the driven elements of the machine.
At the front the mower and reel turned like clockwork.
The farmers standing around asked themselves whether this could work so well on the arable field.
The farmers' discussions lasted a long time.
Some thought that the old threshing machine was better. The others gave the new combine more opportunities.
Old farmers gave the combine harvester no chance at all.
That can never prevail, they said. After all the sheaves were brought into our barn, our family waited for the threshing machine.
When did we get it?
Other farmers had already finished threshing. Many others were waiting for their turn.
The good thing was that everyone helped out with the neighbors.
The day finally came when our courtyard gate was opened to the monster.
A tractor maneuvered the threshing machine through the entrance to our barn.
The iron wheels squeaked and crushed the pebbles in the driveway. It sounded like a heavy tank shaking the ground.
More to the left, more to the right, the men standing around called out.
It always took more than half an hour for the machine to be in the barn with centimeter precision.
Pipes for the south were laid in the back corner to our neighbor Popp. Then the machinist assigned people to their work.
Men stood at the sack pushers to fill the sacks of grain.
Strong men were also available at the straw press to stow the bales of straw in the barn, which was gradually becoming empty.

Beides „komponieren“ und „konsumieren“ werden wir ausüben.
