“It was a set of fortunate circumstances that lead to the publication of this book. While visiting the artist’s atelier with Hans Ulrich Obrist in the winter of 2009 we found a pile of A3 and A2 sized drawings, lying completely disregarded in a portfolio. They were drawn from memory by Sabine Moritz while she was a student in Offenbach and Düsseldorf, like a diary of her childhood in Lobeda, a prefab estate near Jena (in what was then East Germany), where she lived until 1985; blocks of flats, the playground, kindergarten, school, the family’s flat, her father’s laboratory…”
