Growing up I didn't have many friends; I was that weird kid, the outcast that dowelled a little bit too long in world of fantasy. I preferred the company of my imagination to other kids - they tended to mock my camp squeaky voice that all but shot glitter from my mouth whenever I spoke.
When I reached high school, things only got worse. I was forced to whether an even heavier storm. I leaped out the closest at age 13. I figured, hey I'm gay, it's not a big deal right? Wrong. In my small town it was a big deal and it from that moment onward that I began my slow limp through puberty, stopping along the way to indulge in some casual sex, whilst sporting hangovers and heartache, before eventually arriving at the dubious doors of adulthood.
This book is a series of personal essays that rehashes my battles with bullying and homophobia; it talks about how I overcame sexual assault at young age and talks about how I was the possibly the most awkward child to ever slither out of a vagina.
It'll give you a front row seat as I talk about my struggles with addiction, with sex, with finding my path and battling depression - but, you know, in a funny, honest kind of way. Because how else can you learn from your mistakes if you don't (one day) laugh at them?
It's candid, somewhat chaotic and probably does overshare. It offers a true insight into the struggles a lot of LGBT youth face; as well dealing with alcoholism and the troubles I encountered whilst navigating my way through that illusive minefield they call adulthood.
