The study describes a gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry-based metabolite profiling from grain of barley plants grown under induced drought stress. The data assessment via multi- and univariate analysis revealed 17 metabolites which are significantly changed by drought stress using a rain-out-shelter. In addition, the results indicate that free amino acids may serve as potential markers for cultivars differently adapted to drought.
