This work develops a novel, multistage depressed collector with E×B drift for high-power gyrotrons in fusion plants. The cylindrical design increases the overall efficiency from around 50% to over 60%, thereby reducing the power requirements of future ECRH systems. A modular prototype for short-pulse and a continuous-wave operation compatible design demonstrate adaptability to existing systems and opens up possibilities for future-oriented applications.
