Beschreibung

“Call me Ishmael”

On the vast, unpredictable oceans, Captain Ahab of the whaling vessel “Pequod” is a man possessed. Haunted by the loss of his leg to the elusive white whale who claimed it, Ahab's thirst for revenge knows no bounds. Heedless of any consequences, he and his crew pursue his ghostlike nemesis: Moby Dick. Herman Melville's classic tale is a thrilling maritime adventure novel as well as a powerful allegory on the untamable essence of nature and fate.

Autor*in

Herman Melville
Herman Melville, born in 1819 in New York, held various odd jobs after the early death of his father before he joined a whaling ship in 1841. As a freelance writer, he undertook extensive travels abroad and gave lectures, and he also worked as a farmer and customs inspector. Now mainly famous for his ›Moby-Dick‹, the novelist, poet, and essayist died lonely and forgotten in 1891.
