The birth and development of competition law have been witnessed in several Arab countries during the last decade. Eight Arab countries have enacted competition laws, others are in con-templation. Competition policy is being integrated into the general economic policy to achieve economic and social development. Yet, competition law enforcement faces several challenges, such as the interaction between competition and other trade policies, lack of awareness and some political influence.
The book sheds some light on the international, regional and internal factors that contributed to spreading competition law in the Arab region. It also presents an in-depth study on the Jordanian competition law and enforcement, analysing its provisions and addressing the structure and functions of the competition entities. Finally, it presents the competition laws of six Arab countries.
The challenges faced in writing this book are reflected not only in addressing new competition systems with little jurisprudence, but also for being the first comprehensive competition law book pre-sented to Arab and international scholars and practitioners to open a door for further discussion, analysis and exchange of ex-perience.
