In the 1960s, Zora Janžekovč developed a method to heal many victims of burns who earlier would have died. The tangential excision, as her breakthrough method is called, led her to the top of her field. All of this occurred in a small hospital in the Slovenian city of Maribor while working under very disadvantageous material constraints.
