Beschreibung

The book examines the risks that climate change poses to the built environment and, drawing inspiration from architectural history, shows how cities can be designed to be resilient and sustainable in the age of climate change under drastically changing climate and weather conditions. The work provides a comprehensive overview of climatic changes, their underlying causes, interactions, and impacts on the transformation of global habitats, as well as their far-reaching consequences for the built environment, specifically in Europe and Germany. In doing so, it not only highlights the challenges but also offers practical approaches, presents relevant sustainability models as solution strategies, and explores their further development.

Contents
Introduction.- It is getting hot, very hot.- Current climate changes.- The consequences.- The scenarios.- Sustainability.- Design principles and sustainability.- Urban planning in the context of climate change.- Architecture in the context of climate change.- Digital connectivity and AI.- Regulations, standards, ordinances and guidelines.

Target audience
Students of civil engineering and the construction and real estate industries. Architects, developers, and urban planners. Anyone who understands the built environment as a key to addressing climate change and wants to actively shape it.

Climate change and the construction Industry: Challenges and solutions for a resilient future of the built environment. What impact does climate change have on construction and housing projects in urban areas, and how can cities and local authorities respond appropriately? This textbook provides a comprehensive overview of climate change, its underlying causes, and its effects on global ecosystems, as well as its far-reaching consequences for the built environment here in Europe and Germany in particular. It not only highlights the challenges but also offers practical approaches, relevant sustainability models as potential solutions, and strategies for their further development.

Sustainable Home: A model for transformation that combines efficiency and quality of life in the life cycle A vision for sustainable construction that holistically combines climate, tradition, innovation and materiality Sustainability 4.0: A driving force model for sufficiency and responsibility in the construction and property sector
