Character - The Koninklijke Bibliotheek under the Directorship of Wim van Drimmelen 1991-2008 is an exceptionally rich farewell compilation, both by text and by illustrations. Forty international authors pay their respects to the former national librarian of the Netherlands. The articles focus on the recent sweeping changes to the very character of the library world in general, on the metamorphosis of the Dutch national library by anticipating and reacting to these changes, and on the importance of Wim van Drimmelen's character in all of this. The design is astonishingly beautiful.
