Beschreibung
The Republic of Venice - La Serenissima - was a major maritime and economic power from the 7th/8th century until 1797. Venice is one of the most breathtaking cities in the world due to its location in the lagoon and the multitude of grandiose artistic monuments. The heart of the city beats in St Mark's Square, where the Doge's Palace, the St Mark's Tower and the byzantine fairytale-like St Mark's Basilica form Venice's most famous silhouette. As in a venetian veduta by Canaletto, gondolas glide along the Grand Canal past aristocratic palaces with magnificent late Gothic architecture. The black painted gondolas of Venice embody the romantic image of the city worldwide like no other landmark.
