“Fight” – New Book by Erik Kothny
With his ninth book, Fight, Erik Kothny presents a personal yet critical examination of the development of modern sport.
The book originates from the sporting career of his son Willi – from modest beginnings to participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney. What initially started as a retrospective of an extraordinary athletic journey gradually evolved into a broader reflection on the state of contemporary sport.
Kothny explores how competitive sport, once centered on performance, discipline, and clearly defined rules, is increasingly influenced by social and political developments.
Addressing current issues, the author raises a central question: What role should sport play in the future? Should it serve as a platform for societal debate, or remain an independent domain governed by clear rules and fair competition?
At the same time, Fight aims to stimulate thought and discussion. The title represents not only athletic competition, but also the broader struggle surrounding fairness, identity, and the future of sport.
The analysis is accompanied by 28 QR codes that visualize training and competitions.
