disciplined life despite being surrounded by friends who party recklessly. One night,
under peer pressure, she drinks for the first time, meets a young man named Leo, and in
a moment clouded by alcohol, becomes pregnant.
Ashamed, afraid, and alone, Maureen carries the pregnancy through her final year of
school. When she gives birth, fear overwhelms her and she abandons her newborn son
near a refuse site, leaving only a letter apologizing to the child she believes she will never
see again.
A young boy finds the crying infant and takes him to an orphanage. The baby is named
Stephen.
Stephen grows up brilliant but is moved from orphanage to orphanage, suffering neglect
and mistreatment. One day, a wealthy American couple, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, visit Ghana
to adopt a child. They see Stephen sitting alone in a corner and instantly feel drawn to
him. They adopt him and raise him in New York with love and opportunity.
Years later, Stephen becomes an outstanding student and applies to Washington DC
University. There, he meets Professor Maureen Asantewaa, now a respected political
science lecturer, still haunted by the child she abandoned.
Neither knows the truth.
