This book reviews the current status and describes future perspectives in the field of cellular cardiomyoplasty, which involves the transplantation of myogenic cells into cardiac tissue for the formation of neomyocardium and repair of the injured heart. The book provides a brief review of myocardial regeneration and terminal differentiation of myocytes. Individual chapters cover genetic approaches, fetal cardiomyocyte transplantation, myoblast transplantation and satellite cell implantation for the repair and replacement of damaged heart muscle.
