This volume contains contributions to the Brite/Euram third Framework "European Computational Aerodynamics Research Project" (ECARP), particular to the outcomes of the Mesh Adaptation area. This part of the project looked to establish the benefits of mesh adaptation within the context of a computational fluid dynamics based Civil Aircraft design process. Building upon the outcomes of past Brite/Euram projects, mesh adaptation methods for both structured and unstructured mesh frameworks were developed. The resulting codes were exercised within a controlled workshop envirronment in order to assess benefit and develop a consensus view as to the true industrial value of mesh adaptation. The exercise concluded that though it was not possible to universally underwrite the mesh adaptation process, under certain circumstances benefits, in terms of accuracy and enhanced flow feature resolution were identified.
