This volume contains 14 contributions to the 13th GAMM Seminar held in Kiel from January 24 to 26, 1997. Multiple scales appear in the discretisation process of partial differential equations as well as in the solution phase. Examples of both kinds are presented in the book.
The book covers the main multiple scale techniques, which are multigrid methods, wavelets, domain decomposition, local grid constructions and homogenisation. The reader finds applications to elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic PDE and boundary elements methods.
