This volume contains abstracts of the 10th international symposium on Environmental Geotechnology and Sustainable Development, organized by ISEG and held from September 7-11, 2009 in Bochum Germany. The contributions covered current topics of environmental geotechnology, related both to infrastructure development, environmental and structural mechanics of rocks and building foundation. Structural aspects of resource mining and their environmental impact, contaminant hydrology, and mining effects on slopes and groundwater, collection and utilization of coal mine gases, remediation issues, management and treatment of mine waters, and political and technical aspects of sustainable development are reflected in the presentations given at this converence.
