Beschreibung

This version of Bernardakis’ editio maior of Plutarch’s 'Moralia' is based on the editor’s own notes and incorporates information about the mediaeval manuscripts from more recent sources. The aim of the edition is to compete with the later complete editions (Teubner, Loeb, Budé). While these are the work of teams of editors and of variable quality, here we have for the first time in over a century an edition of Plutarch created using consistent criteria. Bernardakis’ outstanding linguistic competence and his respectful caution about textual emendations made it seem advisable to present Plutarch’s works in a form faithful to the great Greek philologist’s plan and yet maintaining contemporary standards to an audience which can and wants to read an author in full.
