Beschreibung

The demand for return in investment (ROI) analyses in public health is on the rise as a ‘business case’ needs to be presented before a public health programme can be funded. This book explains the science behind ROI analyses and shows how policy makers can learn the art of understanding and using it in the context of public health. Using examples drawn from the NICE ROI Tools, business cases for various alternative policy options around smoking cessation, improving physical activity and reducing alcohol use are presented. In addition, several examples of real-world decision problems facing public health investors are discussed to address the usefulness of ROI evidence in public health policy making.

Contextualizes understanding of policy/decision problems
Emphasises ROI as a method to approach such problems
Offers strategies for engagement and communication for policy impacts, with special focus on tobacco cessation, alcohol use and physical activity
Provides policy makers with a post-mortem of decision problems they might face in real-life – with a view to improving their understanding as to how such problems could/should be approached using ROI concepts and tools
Demonstrates that public health decisions underpinned by robust economic analyses often need relevant strategies to engage with and communicate to wider stakeholders for policy impacts

Stimmen zu »ROI in Public Health Policy«

“This book describes various aspects of how to make an economic argument to drive policy for public health programs. … students in the health professions, including public health, would benefit from the book. The authors/contributors are well respected authorities in their fields. … There are many health economics books on the market, but none that use the ROI model as this book does.” (Carole A. Kenner, Doody's Book Reviews, May, 2018)
