The Romantic Chivalrous Epic as a Phenomenon of the German Rococo

This study of the Rococo epic as it evolved out of Wieland's Oberon traces the development of the rational/romantic confrontation from the 1760's to the second decade of the nineteenth century. The Rococo period as well as the romantic chivalrous epic are treated as transitionary phenomena in a rational/romantic continuum.
