MATRIX. Gender Relations Revisions examines the relational category of gender in works of art of the last 40 years. The focal points are the discussion of overlapping central themes such as body (pictures), identity construction, self-dramatization, representation criticism and the writing of art history. Pictures of sexuality and the sexes undercut the polarization of "femininity" and "masculinity" expand our views. The works of art are introduced with engaging short texts that are embedded in a larger art history and theoretical context, along with the ‘classic’ essay "Painted Ladies" by Rozsika Parker and Griselda Pollock, as well as Anja Zimmermanns’ essay "What Was Feminist Art?".
