Das Buch dokumentiert den Aufbruch einer neuen Künstlergeneration in Kärnten nach 1945 und schildert die Entwicklung ihrer Kunst bis in die Gegenwart. Viele der vorgestellten Künstler wie z. B. Maria Lassnig oder Kiki Kogelnik haben über Kärnten hinaus die Kunstgeschichte geprägt. Das Buch beschreibt die wesentlichen künstlerischen Tendenzen im kulturhistorischen Kontext und stellt die Protagonisten mit den Hauptwerken ihres Schaffens vor. Erstmals wird auch der Beitrag Kärntens zur modernen Architektur und zur Kunst im öffentlichen Raum gewürdigt.
„Emancipation and Confrontation" documents both the emergence of a new, postwar generation of artists, and the way art has developed between then and now. In addition to painting, sculpture, photography, video art and installtions have also gained in importance, and have been presented accordingly. Many of the artists native to Carinthia such as Maria Lassnig, Kiki Kogelnik, Bruno Gironcoli, Cornelius Kolig, Kurt Kocherscheidt or Heimo Zobernig have made their mark on the history of art. Carinthia’s contribution to modern architecture and art in public space is paid tribute to here for the first time. Projects are exemplarily presented and the typically Carinthian prerequisites critically analyzed. A publication that offers a profound insight into all spheres of artistic production.
