As part of the complete works of Gottfried Leß (1736-1797), an Enlightenment theologian and university preacher from Göttingen, the "Sunday Gospels" have a special position. It is here that the author interprets the texts of the Gospels in the designated lectionary in an exemplary manner and in doing so provides an impression of the evolvement of significant parts of the New Testament, an evolvement whose aim was to enlighten, improve and edify.
