The present volume contains a collection of 16 essays by Erhard Blum which deal with the question of the compositional history of the Pentateuch and the Former Prophets.
The present volume contains a collection of 16 essays by Erhard Blum, Professor of Old Testament at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Tübingen. These works were published elsewhere between 1980 and 2007 and deal with the question of the compositional history of the Pentateuch and the Former Prophets. Some of these esssays focus on the analysis of highly controversial texts such as Jacob's struggle at the Yabboq (Gen 32) or the bloody bridegroom (Ex 4), whereas others deal with the overall compositional structure of Genesis to Kings and its history, such as the transition from the patriarchs to the exodus narrative or the transition from Joshua to Judges or the second covenant at Sinai (Ex 34). A number of essays cover the prophetical stories in the Book of Kings and the succession narrative and their relevance for the composition of Deuteronomistic History.
