At the invitation of Professor Geert Walenkamp, MD PhD of the Clinic for Orthopedics of the University of Maastricht, many experts on endoprosthetics from eight European countries came together in Maastricht, NL. Successes, limits, and further developments in PMMA bone cement as a local carrier of active substances as well as aspects of the prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of infections in endosurgery were the main topics of the meeting: - Antibiotics as prophylaxis in endoprosthetics - Antibiotics as therapy for early and late infections - Revision: one-step or two-step treatment - PMMA bone cement as carrier of active substances - Spacers: PMMA as a drug delivery system - PMMA-gentamycin beads in the local therapy for infections - Antibiotics additives, mode of action of Antibiotics; interaction of Antibiotics with PMMA - PMMA-free active substance systems, new drug materials - Antibiotics layers on implants Target groups: Physicians, traumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, pharmacists, microbiologists, infectiologists, and materials scientists
