Growing recognition and understanding of nonbinary identities have led to shifts in language use and structures. This volume is dedicated to the ways in which these identities are expressed through linguistic means, including the rise of neopronouns, gender-inclusive grammatical suffixes, new gender-inclusive terminology, and other related innovations. It also includes sections on nonbinary language and self-definition; societal attitudes to nonbinary language; applied perspectives on nonbinary language; and the adoption of new nonbinary terminology. The volume considers global and multinational languages (English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish), as well as a range of smaller national languages (Danish, Estonian, Finnish, Hebrew, Hungarian, and Icelandic) and a stateless minoritised language (Ladino).
