This handbook presents an overview of the sociolinguistic situation of Ibero-American countries, especially those that make up the Ibero-American Community of Nations. Bilingualism and the coexistence of languages, frontier varieties, the emergence of creoles, demolinguistic dynamics respond to different geographical, historical, and political conditions and manifest themselves very differently in each Ibero-American country.
This handbook offers a complete panorama of Ibero-American sociolinguistics, providing valuable and up-to-date information on language policy, sociology of language, ethnography, and linguistic anthropology of this large geographical area. It addresses the situation of the most widely spoken languages in Ibero-America (Spanish, Portuguese, English, French...), but also with the situation of different native languages, the super-diversity of some territories or minoritization processes. Likewise, migratory movements will be considered, both towards cities and between countries (Central Americans, Venezuelans...), as well as exiles.
