In the old Prussian army, officers from Neumark were overrepresented to a similar degree as aristocratic families from Pomerania. In districts bordering Poland in particular, small estates dominated whose meager incomes compelled their younger sons to seek their livelihoods in military service. These biograms provide information about officers’ family and financial situations, and their careers.
