The War of the Spanish Succession takes up much space. Leibniz himself is absent from Hanover for more than half of the period. Leibniz leaves the household to his assistant and employee J. F. Hodann and devotes himself primarily to matters relating to the society of science in Berlin. He also maintains a large number of correspondences covering a wide range of topics.
