This volume examines images of Eastern Europe in 18^th century discourse in the context of post-colonialism and the pictorial turn to ask whether there was a standardized repertoire of images and if such images are classifiable along a colonial axis of center versus periphery. The study’s findings evoke further reflection on Larry Wolff’s thesis on the Enlightenment’s "invention of Eastern Europe."
