Today, the extraordinary significance of Neoplatonism to Hegel’s thought is beyond question. However, despite so many commonalities, no previous interpretation of Hegel’s philosophy of the subjective spirit has been based on Plotinus’ and Proclus’ doctrine of the soul. This book fills the gap in Hegel research by considering Hegel’s own interpretation of the role of the spirit in late ancient Neoplatonism.
