The focus of the years 1815–1816 is on Goethe’s final journey to his home town of Frankfurt in 1815, his meeting with the Freiherr vom Stein, his love affair with Marianne Willemer and its influence on the creation of the West-östlichen Divan [West-Eastern Diwan], and his appointment as state minister. In 1816, Christiane von Goethe died, and Goethe went to Bad Tennstedt to recover from this fateful blow.
