This volume uses the sources of the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft from 1641-1643 to document the society’s linguistic, literary, and irenic impact amidst the devastating reality of war. The Fruitful Society’s translations, poetry, and prose; language reform and literary criticism; as well as its printmaking, editorial, and publishing projects reveal an academy in which the nobility became increasingly connected with scholars from the middle class.
