This first sub-volume of the travelogues includes Travels in England in 1782 and the associated essay “Letter from London.” Moritz describes his travels, undertaken “mainly on foot” in letters to a friend in Berlin. The text has been edited in accordance with the sources, including all variants, and is presented with extensive biographical, geographical, cultural-historical, and language-related commentary.
