You are free to interpret my work in any way you find meaningful. I paint hoping to produce
images I haven’t seen before, to engage my eye, imagination, and emotions. I want to express
how it feels to experience life in our current time, so I am mindful of visual cues that enhance that
expression. But I rarely start painting with a specific agenda. A possible meaning usually comes
to me after I’ve completed the design to my satisfaction. When I title an artwork, I try to hint at
what the painting reminds me of, or what feeling it evokes in me. However, when you look at my
work, I’m just as interested in what meanings or associations you might draw from the experience.
Abstract art is mysterious and strange to most people, including myself. I believe that even today
there is still potential for a painting to spark meaningful discussion between people, to deepen our
sense of community, to start a conversation. A painting can illuminate how differently each of us
sees the world around us, or conversely, how much we have in common.
