Born in Biella , where he resides with his wife Chiara and son John. He graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Albertina in Turin. His artistic language is characterized by diverse means of expression, combined with projects ‚ site specific ‚ and / or temporary installations. Since the first group exhibition in the late 1980s, Leonardo Pierro has explored different topics that are crucial to understanding the complex relationships between art and aesthetic, religion and politics, consumerism and counterculture. From diptych paintings, showing classical and mythic postmodern subjects to the installations of painted banknotes on coffee jute bags, his work challenges contemporary art critics generating new art objects that meet the public taste and consumption.
As a young apprentice I had been captured by Alberto Burri’s jute sack, is own symbolic value, its poetry. Beyond this humble and modest cloth you can find richness in its conceptual meaning, beginning from an abstract collage construction, to the idea of stitching and stretching them together across the frame. For this special exhibition MIAMI 2.0, I want to turn into new art expression these discarded material, conferring new forms to these superfluous, useless rugs. The pictorial sign in inaccurate pixels, requires a distancing from the object to be able to grasp the whole, emancipating itself from the mere contemplative aspect with an alternative, conceptual awareness.
