Artemis P. Simopoulos
Artemis P. Simopoulos, M.D., is the Founder and President of the Center for Genetics, Nutrition and Health, which is a nonprofit educational organization in Washington, D.C., established in 1990. As a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a major in Chemistry, and a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, she is a physician and endocrinologist whose research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was conducted on the nutritional aspects of genetic and endocrine disorders, the evolutionary aspects of diet and fatty acids, and the importance of a balanced ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids in health and disease, and in growth and development. Dr. Simopoulos is a world-renowned researcher on essential fatty acids, and she was also a nutritional adviser for the Office of Consumer Affairs at the White House. She is the author of The Omega Diet; The Healing Diet and has completed a chapter for the Encyclopedia of UNESCO, on “Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9 Fatty Acids: Sources, Metabolism and Supplements.” She is currently a Consulting Editor for Lifestyle Genomics.
