Beschreibung

This book fills the gap within training courses which do not have time to adequately cover working with autistic clients within their equality and diversity section of their courses, so that they are better prepared to work with autistic clients. It will also be useful for psychotherapists and counsellors who have already qualified to gain further knowledge on how to work ethically and effectively with autistic clients they may see. The book will raise awareness for therapists about the predominant social narratives which persist in many therapy circles and different modalities and aim to help therapists see not only where it has come from but also give them an alternative narrative; a way to look and consider autism which helps them see that there is more than a singular narrative.

Mike Newey is a practicing integrative psychotherapist, cognitive behavioural therapist and clinical supervisor, working within the NHS, a counselling lecturer and also operates a small private practice specialising in working with autistic adult clients.
He has been a practicing therapist since 2019 and has worked in the field of mental health since 2013. Since 2021 Mike has specialised in the area of neurodiversity not only supporting neurodivergent clients in his practice as a psychotherapist but also supporting colleagues and supervisees in their work with this client group too, both on a one to one basis and through the facilitating of training to various teams.
