This book examines sustainability from an ethnoeconomics perspective, offering an equitable and durable pathway for economic development in the climate–biodiversity era. By recognising the rationalities, ecological knowledge, and institutional practices embedded within indigenous and local communities, it presents economic models built around sustainable practice, land stewardship, biodiversity, reciprocity, and social resilience rather than growth and extraction alone. In contrast to conventional approaches to development economics, ethnoeconomics defines economic activity as a culturally mediated relationship between human communities and their environments.

Vladan L. Kuzmanović is a researcher in economics at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Economics, Serbia. His work focuses on sustainable development, environmental economics, economic anthropology, marketing theory, behavioural economics, and the role of local and indigenous knowledge systems in socio-economic and ecological transformation.
