Beschreibung

This book compiles research findings related to geotechnical engineering and urban underground space, providing readers with targeted research experience and case studies. Geotechnical engineering, which involves the foundation safety of infrastructure and structures, is an important fundamental research area in civil engineering. It provides crucial basic data for intelligent disaster prediction. Geotechnical engineers gather extensive information about rock and soil properties through geological surveys and soil sample tests. This information is particularly important for addressing issues related to geotechnical loadings and structural safety in complex environments, directly impacting the proper use and safety of engineering projects. Urban underground space has been continuously developing as above-ground space resources become increasingly scarce. Especially in major cities and large cities in developed countries, the construction of underground space remains an important part of urban development. Unlike above-ground construction, the development and construction of underground space require more attention to geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics loadings, particularly in the early stages of exploration, structural support during construction, and load monitoring in the use stages. If structural damage or collapse occurs in urban underground space, it not only causes the collapse of the underground space itself but may also lead to a chain reaction of catastrophic collapses or structural damage to above-ground buildings or structures in the corresponding area. Therefore, the structure and design of urban underground space are equally important. This book includes several papers from the 2025 International Conference on Geotechnics and Hydraulic Structure, discussing topics related to geotechnical engineering and urban underground space. Topics include, but are not limited to, geotechnical slope and soil mechanics analysis, tunneling and urban underground space engineering, and water-soil (rock) foundation-structure interaction. Our goal is to share the latest research findings with geotechnical engineers worldwide and provide more solutions to complex engineering challenges.
