This book explores the relevance of Sartrean existentialism to the contemporary socio-political landscape, with particular reference to his early novel Nausea and the concepts of bad faith and authenticity outlined in his major philosophical work Being and Nothingness. Stuart Sim is a retired Professor of Critical Theory at Northumbria University, having previously worked for the Open University and the University of Sunderland. Recent publications include Daniel Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year and Covid-19 (Palgrave, 2023). He is a Fellow of the English Association.
