Around the world, religious communities are engaging with and responding to old and new media. In the process, religious users reshape the constellations of their own communities as well as the nature of the media. Drawing upon the case study of Amon Yitzhak and his organization, Shofar, Mediating Religion, Sanctifying Media explores the active use of electronic media to promote a more observant lifestyle amongst the “secular” and “traditional” Jewish populations in Israel. Employing a critical framework of analysis, this book explores how media use is implicated in new cultural forms.
